PDF Compressor

Shrink PDFs in your browser and see exactly how much was saved

Drop a PDF here

One PDF up to 100 MB. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.

Compression level
  • Browser compression mainly re-saves object streams and recompresses simple JPEG images. Text-only and vector PDFs may not shrink.
  • Rewriting a PDF can invalidate existing digital signatures. Keep the original if the file is signed.
Choose a PDF and a compression level, then select Compress PDF to see the size difference.
What does the PDF Compressor do?

It tries to make a PDF smaller in your browser and shows exactly what happened: original size, output size, saved bytes, and saved percentage. If the result is not at least 1% smaller, it says no meaningful reduction was possible and keeps your original file for download instead of handing you a bigger or identical copy.

How to use it
  1. 1.Drop a PDF or browse for one.
  2. 2.Choose Low, Balanced, or High compression.
  3. 3.Select Compress PDF and wait for the progress to finish; you can cancel at any time.
  4. 4.Review the size comparison and download the result.
What each level changes

Low is lossless: it re-saves the PDF structure using compressed object streams and leaves images and metadata untouched. Balanced also re-encodes simple RGB or grayscale JPEG images at 85% quality and clears document info such as title and author. High re-encodes those JPEG images at 65% quality and downsizes images larger than 2048 px, which can visibly reduce quality. Text, fonts, and vector graphics are never rasterized.

Honest limits

Results depend entirely on the file. Scanned PDFs made of large JPEG images usually shrink the most; text-only, vector-heavy, or already optimized PDFs may not shrink at all. Images with transparency masks, CMYK or indexed colors, and non-JPEG image formats are preserved as they are. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first, and rewriting a PDF can invalidate existing digital signatures.

Privacy

The PDF is read and rewritten in your browser and is not uploaded. Files up to 100 MB are supported; very large documents need enough free memory on your device.
