What does the Webcam Tester show?
It opens the camera you choose and shows a live preview next to session diagnostics: the device name, the resolution and aspect ratio the browser negotiated, the frame rate the camera reports, the frame rate actually observed in this tab, average brightness, a relative sharpness indicator and a 32-bin luminance histogram. Use it to check framing, lighting and focus before a call or recording, or to confirm which camera a browser picks.
How to use
- 1.Select Start camera and allow access when your browser asks.
- 2.Pick another camera from the list if you have more than one; the previous camera is released first.
- 3.Optionally request a resolution or frame rate and compare it with what the stream reports.
- 4.Watch brightness, sharpness and the histogram while you adjust light, focus or distance.
- 5.Save a PNG snapshot if you need one, then select Stop camera.
Accuracy and limits
Every value is a browser-observed estimate for this session. Resolution and frame rate describe the stream the browser negotiated, which can be lower than the camera hardware supports, and the observed frame rate depends on lighting, CPU load and whether the tab is visible. Brightness and sharpness are computed on a small downsampled frame about three times per second; they are useful for comparisons, not a standardized camera quality score.
Privacy
The camera is requested only after you select Start camera. Video frames are analysed inside your browser, nothing is uploaded or stored, and the camera is released when you select Stop camera or leave the page. Snapshots are downloaded directly to your device.
