What is Headphone Tester?

Headphone Tester plays short, quiet test tones so you can confirm that the left and right channels of your headphones, earbuds or speakers are wired to the correct side and that both produce sound. It runs entirely in your browser with the Web Audio API and starts no sound until you click a test.

How to use
  1. 1.Turn your system volume down before you start.
  2. 2.Click Left, Both or Right and listen for a short tone on the matching side.
  3. 3.Start the Left ↔ Right sweep to hear the tone move smoothly between your ears.
  4. 4.Use Click Sound Check to listen for crackle or dropouts.
  5. 5.Open Advanced to play a continuous tone with your own frequency, waveform and balance, then click Stop sound.
What the tests can and cannot tell you

The tests show whether audio is routed to the expected channel on this device and browser. They do not measure hearing, frequency response, distortion or audio latency, and they do not certify headphone quality. Click Sound Check is a listening check only; no timing is measured.

Safety and browser behaviour
  • •The default level is conservative and the maximum level is capped, but your system volume still decides how loud it is.
  • •Square and sawtooth waves are scaled down because they sound louder than a sine wave.
  • •Sound stops when you click Stop sound, switch tabs, or leave the page.
  • •Output device selection appears only in browsers that let a page route Web Audio to a chosen device.
Privacy

All tones are generated locally. The tool does not access your microphone, does not record anything and sends no audio or device data to a server.
