What does TCP / UDP Port Lookup show?

It searches the IANA Service Name and Transport Protocol Port Number Registry together with a maintained list of common developer conventions. Each port lists every official assignment separately for TCP, UDP, SCTP and DCCP, the reserved or unassigned status where IANA records one, ranges that include the port, and the services developers usually run there.

Official assignment or common convention?

An official assignment is what IANA registered for a port. A common developer convention is a typical default, such as Vite on 5173 or a Node.js dev server on 3000. Conventions are labelled separately because any program can listen on any port; a convention never proves which service is running.

How to search
  1. 1.Type a port such as 443, a range such as 8000-8100, a service name such as postgres, or a keyword such as kafka.
  2. 2.Add tcp or udp (for example 53 udp), or use the Protocol and Source filters.
  3. 3.Select a port in Results to see every record, its port class, browser notes and commands to find the process locally.
  4. 4.Share a lookup with the page link: it keeps the search in ?q= and the selected port in ?port=.
Limitations

The registry is a dated snapshot bundled with the page; nothing is fetched while you search. The tool does not scan your network and cannot tell which process uses a port on your machine. Use the suggested lsof or netstat command, or the Local Port Scanner, for that.
