What is the SEO Meta Inspector?
The SEO Meta Inspector fetches one public page, or reads HTML you paste, and lists the metadata that search engines and social platforms can discover: title, meta description, canonical, meta robots and X-Robots-Tag, charset, viewport, language, Open Graph, X (Twitter) tags, icons, hreflang, theme color and JSON-LD. It then reports focused issues as Error, Warning or Info.
How to use
- 1.Enter a public URL, or switch to Paste HTML and paste the page source. Load an example to see a report immediately.
- 2.Select Inspect. In URL mode the fetch summary shows the final URL, status, redirect chain, content type, size, time and X-Robots-Tag.
- 3.Review the issues, errors first. Items marked Heuristic are guidance, not rules.
- 4.Open Metadata, Search, Social or Raw for the full tables, an approximate search result, likely social cards and the JSON view.
- 5.Download or copy the JSON report.
What it checks
Errors cover malformed canonical URLs, several canonical tags pointing to different URLs, and canonical links placed in the body. Warnings cover a missing, empty or repeated title or description, noindex in meta robots or X-Robots-Tag, a canonical on another host, missing Open Graph tags or og:image, a missing twitter:card when Open Graph exists, conflicting single-value social tags, a missing viewport, a late or repeated charset, invalid JSON-LD and metadata placed in the body. Info notes cover title and description length heuristics, fallbacks platforms will likely use, missing structured data, lang, icons and charset, and redirects. Duplicate tags are reported in document order.
Privacy and limitations
URL mode sends only the URL to CodingTool servers, which fetch the page without cookies or credentials, block private, local and cloud metadata addresses on every redirect, stop after 2 MB and 10 seconds, and store nothing. Pasted HTML never leaves your browser. The inspector reads the static HTML response and does not run JavaScript, so tags added after hydration are missing; use the SEO Rendering & Indexability Inspector for the rendered page. Length checks are pixel estimates, and network errors are reported as errors, never as missing metadata.
