JSON to Excel Converter

Runs locally in your browser

Convert JSON arrays into a real .xlsx workbook with a preview first

Arrays
Null values
Date cells

Applies only when every value in a column is a calendar date (YYYY-MM-DD, 1900-03-01 or later). Date-times stay text because Excel dates have no time zone.

JSON input

Paste JSON or load an example to preview the worksheet.
What JSON to Excel does

JSON to Excel turns a JSON array of records, such as an API response or a database export, into a real .xlsx workbook with one worksheet. It finds every array in the document, lets you pick the one you need (for example $.data.users), and builds columns from the union of keys across all rows, so a field that only appears in some records still gets its own column.

How to use
  1. 1.Paste JSON, upload or drop one .json file, or load an example.
  2. 2.Check the selected dataset path and pick another one if the JSON holds several arrays.
  3. 3.Set the sheet name, flattening, array handling and null handling.
  4. 4.Review the preview: row and column counts plus the first 20 rows exactly as they will be written.
  5. 5.Select Download .xlsx to save data.xlsx.
How values are written

Numbers become numeric cells and true/false become boolean cells. Strings stay text, so IDs such as 00123 keep their leading zeros. Nested objects become dot columns such as address.city when flattening is on, or JSON text when it is off. Arrays of simple values are joined with commas or written as JSON text. JSON null becomes an empty cell or the text null, while a missing key is always an empty cell. Columns that contain only calendar dates (YYYY-MM-DD) are written as Excel dates; date-times stay text because Excel dates have no time zone.

Spreadsheet safety

Text that starts with =, +, - or @ could run as a formula when someone edits or re-exports the sheet. Such values and headers get a leading apostrophe in both the preview and the file, so they stay plain text, and the tool tells you how many were changed. Sheet names are checked against Excel rules (31 characters, no [ ] : * ? / \, no apostrophe at the edges, not History) and every adjustment is explained.

Limits and privacy

Numbers beyond JavaScript or Excel precision, such as 9007199254740993, are written as text with their exact digits instead of being rounded. Text longer than 32,767 characters and characters that XLSX files cannot store are reported when they are changed. A sheet holds at most 1,048,575 data rows and 16,384 columns. Inputs over 2 MB are processed when you select Preview sheet. Parsing and the workbook are created in your browser; the JSON is never uploaded.
