What JSON Search does
JSON Search answers "where does this appear?" in unfamiliar or deeply nested JSON. Type part of a key name or a value and every match is listed with its JSONPath, whether the key, the value or both matched, the value type, a short preview and the line and column in your input. You do not need to know JSONPath syntax; for selecting data by conditions, a dedicated JSONPath query tool is the better fit.
How to use
- 1.Paste JSON, upload or drop one .json file, or load an example.
- 2.Type a key or value in Search for. Results update after a short pause; for inputs over 2 MB select Search.
- 3.Choose Search keys, Search values or both, and turn on Case sensitive or Exact match when you need stricter results.
- 4.Use Copy path or Copy value on any result, or Go to input to jump to it in the editor.
- 5.If the JSON is broken, use Repair JSON below the input and search the repaired text.
How matching works
Keys are compared with their decoded names, so a key written with escapes matches its real text. Values cover strings, numbers, true, false and null; numbers are compared exactly as written, so 9007199254740993 is found without rounding. Objects and arrays are not value matches, but the key that holds them is, and array items get indexed paths such as $.data.users[0].email. Keys that are not simple identifiers use bracket notation, for example $["first name"] or $["0"]. Copy value copies strings without quotes, numbers as written and objects or arrays as formatted JSON.
Limits and privacy
Up to 500 matches are kept with full details and shown 100 at a time; the total count always covers every match, and a note asks you to refine the query when the list is cut. A query made only of spaces counts as empty. If a key appears twice in the same object, both places are listed with the same path. The search runs entirely in your browser; the JSON is never uploaded.
